Hot Lips
I'm one of those people who, whenever I go to the local museum, I head straight over to my favourite piece. I think I've had the same favourite painting at the Minneapolis Insistute of Arts for years now. I remember seeing it on a field trip in elementary school and ever since then, I've been absolutely enchanted with it. That painting, to be exact, is The Birthday Party by John Singer Sargent, painted in 1887. It's so mysterious and richly interesting...one of those paintings that you continue to think about after you're well past it. When I found myself in the MIA today, the first thing I did was head up the Impressionist gallery on the 3rd floor and make a beeline for my painting. My painting, I call it! I have a deep sense of ownership over this painting, having longed after it and its many mysteries since I was only 7 or 8. I can stand in front of this masterpiece for minutes and hours. In fact, I have. I wrote an entire essay on it last year for a painting class. I disected every inch of the painting and then even drafted a greyscale grid drawing of it. Two of them, in fact. I've toiled over the significance of this painting for hours.
This could be said of many art pieces. There're thousands of pieces in the MIA's galleries, so why this one should draw me in in particular, who knows? I suppose it has a certain je ne sais quoi...which gets me to my outfit (since this is a fashion blog, am I right or am I right?).
I suppose one could say that this outfit has a tad of French influence to it. There's a certain amount of carefree simplicity to it, which I think is because I was scarcely paying attention to anything while I dressed to go to the art museum. The only thing that played across my mind was: "Good shoes for walking." That was it. Black and white seemed like the easiest route and for some reason, I still went with these H&M faux leather shorts despite it being 86 degrees out. The pink lip was an obvious choice for an outfit that otherwise lacked colour. If I wasn't even going to sport a brightly coloured belt or purse, I might as well do a bright lip.
I was also able to wear this new shirt from Urban Outfitters! I hadn't bought anything from UO since I was 16 or so. They're simply overpriced and horrid quality. I found it to be a waste of money. But a few weeks ago, I came across a gift card for the store that I had carefully stashed away in one of my wallet's many compartments. I scored a couple of shirts with the card, this being one of them because, well, KITTIES! Nothing more needs to be said.
I'll leave you all with a song that I'm loving right now...Hot Lips - so catchy and perfect for a quick swing around the room with the one you love. So come on Moses, old pup, let's dance!
