kitties & peplums
And she's back! I turned in my last final on Friday, worked the whole weekend away, and can finally enjoy the beautiful spring weather and have a social life. I was recently given a part-time internship for the summer doing Fashion Public Relation work. Since this is exactly the field that I want to work in professionally, I'm pretty excited! But immediately I ran into a problem: I have casual clothes, I have trashy clothes, and I have nice church/date clothes. But I really don't have much in the way of professional office attire. Immediately after signing on for the job, I set out in search of some "professional" shoes and new skirts. Peplum skirts are really trendy right now, for whatever reason, so I decided to make my own. It seems like a fun style and I had this adorable kitty fabric.
I made the pattern myself (sorry folks, but I have better stuff to do with $15 than buy a skirt pattern) and I think it turned out pretty good. It's always nice when you can give your clothes a customised fit. And use whatever fabric you want, especially since I'm a dork for statement prints.
I ran into a co-worker the other day and told him about the internship. I said to him, "Keep an eye out for me on Wednesday! I'll be wearing my red kitty skirt." To which he replied, "You already know what you're going to wear?" Yupp, I guess that it is the difference between girls and boys. Either way, I'm excited to start stocking my wardrobe with new blouses, skirts, and stockings! I can also give some of those old blazers another spin...
Back when I was 16, I was so into blazers and menswear in general. A lot of that may even be documented in this blog. I still own many of the blazers, so I'm excited to wear them again. Yeah, I think I'll look pretty cute skirting about the office filing papers and fetching coffee. Or whatever I'll be doing. I'm imagining it all to be very Mad Men-esque.
I'm thinking I'm going to have to be one of those dorks who practices walking in a pencil skirt. Especially up steps. It is by no means a stretchy fabric, and since I commute on the bus, I'm hoping for a seamless entrance on the bus, without any falling or skirt ripping. Wish me luck!

You did NOT make that skirt! I love it!! Man I wish I knew how to sew. After realizing I needed to expand my business wardrobe for my internship this summer, I planned to buy a bunch of new stuff, but then I realized I shouldn't spend that money, so I'll be making do. Happy summer!
I really like the pattern of the skirt - well done for making the skirt without a brought pattern! I would have thought this was a tricky one to do but you did well! :)
Enjoy now your free!

Nice. Love the fabric/pattern combo. "better things to do with $15" priceless. Now please install disqus so I can comment without struggling with the incipient blindness caused by recaptcha. Don't think. Just do it.
Love it.
